my enemy

Why Is My Enemy Necessary?

My Enemy, the vision and prayer of painter and healer Yisrael Feldsott, in collaboration with Dee O’Neal, and made manifest through the participation of many, is a cross-country, interactive portable art installation, seeking to soften and repair the divisions between friend and foe. It is a call to move through the world with more compassion, empathy, and humanity even in places of conflict. My Enemy, while traveling across the United States asks that we consider the aspects of humankind and the everyday struggles that we all share. While involving all fellow human beings in this installation, My Enemy challenges us to consider the “other” as something more than different. It engages our old stories, opinions, and values about justice: across cultural and religious divides, among sexual, racial, and gender identities, toward wilderness sustainability, for prisoners and outcasts, and in view of inequality. The art brings to focus the entanglements and struggles we share, letting us find ways to disassemble these stories that isolate and separate us.

My Enemy is the creation and offering of the artist, Yisrael K. Feldsott, who has worked as an artist for 45 years. Feldsott’s work has been displayed in museums and galleries since his early twenties. His vision for My Enemy is a healing art installation that includes the participation of people across the country—a universal access for all of us to investigate the nature of our conflicts. In a recent art review in the San Francisco WeeklyArts magazine, the author, Curiel, compared Feldsott to J. D. Salinger in terms of his early fame, and then his remote and private life. Curiel wrote, “Unlike Salinger, though, who remained a recluse till the day he died, Feldsott had a change of heart, and he reentered the art mainstream (by accident) a decade ago.” With discipline and passion, Feldsott works in his studio, daily, with a constant eye towards expressing important human values and worldwide strife.

We need you to send My Enemy into the world.

Some of the key things your financial contribution goes towards:

Art supplies: for the original sculptures and screens, as well as supplies purchased on the road for participants to engage themselves with the work.
Gas: so we can make it across the country!
Film equipment: In order to create a permanent document and teaching tool based on the ideas and process of My Enemy, we will need a wide variety of gear, including sound equipment, hard drives, batteries, gopros, etc.
Lodging: We don’t need much, but we will need somewhere to sleep and place to charge our cameras!

Help us raise $35,000 to put My Enemy on the road and bring its vital message and questions to some of our nation’s most torn and hurting places.

Thanks to our friends all over the country (and in Canada!) we raised $15,000 through our Kickstarter page. The support was huge!
Please spread the word so our financial support and awareness can grow and we can continue our journey.

You can be part of the journey with a donation of $25, $100, $1,000. No donation is too small (or large).
